In addition to the proper dishes, inside cats and dogs need to be accommodated with private dining areas. Both cats and dogs prefer to eat away from the main traffic lanes of the house. If disrupted during mealtime, pets often become agitated and may even develop intestinal disorders. Putting the pet’s food in an isolated area also reduces the chance that young toddlers will “sneak” a snack out of the pet’s bowl.

To a toddler, the dog’s kibble may be more appealing than a chocolate chip cookie. Parents may be rightly concerned about the pet food making the child sick. While processing usually removes harmful bacteria from the food, we have learned from experience that even good pet foods can carry harmful contaminants.
