Okay, so maybe the research doesn’t say you have to run out and get an animal for your child today, but it certainly seems to suggest that pet-owning children have certain advantages. If kids with pets have an edge in developing self-concept, empathy, and social skills, do you want to risk your child’s growing up without one? And what about the fact that there seems to be a cultural consensus regarding the benefits of family pet ownership? Given all the facts, shouldn’t you just go ahead and get an animal?
Isn’t this like a lot of other things in life; if you spend too much time thinking about it, you never do it? Maybe so.
