Very small dogs may like a smaller morsel of food, and there are brands that accommodate this preference. A one-and-a-half-pound Chihuahua may have a hard time chewing a food kernel the size of a quarter. Healthy kittens have food preferences too, but size here is not an issue.

All kittens grow at about the same rate and need basically the same general diets. Since adult cat size is less variable than that of dogs, adult cat food is easier to choose, too. High-quality commercial food is a good choice for healthy cats that do not have specific dietary needs.
