But who are we kidding? Most people fall in love on the car ride to the animal hospital. What will your veterinarian look for? The doctor will look for the same characteristics you did and will examine the dog or cat thoroughly for:
1. Ocular problems including abnormalities of the cornea, iris, lens, retina, and eyelids
2. Teeth and bite formation (underbite or overbite)
3. Hard palate defects such as cleft palates
4. Nasal passage occlusions or discharge

5. Ear infections or ear mite infestations
6. Skin lesions related to mange mites, fleas, and fungal or bacterial infections
7. Inguinal or umbilical hernias
