Feeding schedules are important for pets of all ages but are particularly important for young pets, especially puppies. Unlike kittens who are self-regulated eaters, pups should be fed individual meals several times a day. Feeding on schedule is better for the pup’s digestion, helps maintain a consistent glucose level, and facilitates housebreaking. Pups that eat on schedule are also more likely to digest and eliminate on schedule. Puppies should be fed three times daily if possible. Put the appropriate amount of food in the bowl and allow the pup ten to fifteen minutes to consume it.
