Dogs at parks are like children at daycare-they are exposed to things that they don’t encounter at home. In an effort to minimize exposure to infectious diseases, well-managed dog parks will encourage pet owners to keep the pet’s immunizations updated, but this request may not be stringently enforced.

There will be no doggie attendant policing the area asking to see vaccination verifications. Be smart! Before visiting the dog park, make sure your dog is fully protected against contagious diseases-especially kennel cough, which spreads easily between dogs playing together. Dogs will also leave a few things behind when visiting parks-things like fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms.
