No dog is beyond biting under certain circumstances. As long as there are dogs, there will be dog bites. Your job as a parent is to recognize this fact: All dogs can bite. Review the statistics, choose your dog wisely, and train him well. Teach your children how to behave around dogs, too.

Cat-related injuries are usually not discussed as much as dog-induced injuries because they are seldom fatal, but cats can and do inflict harm. Cats should be socialized, like dogs, with their littermates as well as humans to provide a solid foundation for good behavior.
