No one wants to purchase or adopt a “mean” companion animal. But what makes a dog “mean”? Is he born mean or does the manner in which he is raised determine his temperament? Are certain breeds inherently more dangerous than others? While any breed of dog can be dangerous, certain breeds may have unique behavioral tendencies. Carefully research breed temperaments before pet shopping. But remember, any breed of dog that is not socialized or trained properly may pose a risk.

Dogs may not be born mean, but pups that are kept confined and denied sufficient socialization often have temperament issues. Pups need to be nurtured by their canine mother and socialized with their siblings. They also need human contact from an early age.
